Service to others is an integral component of Christian sanctification. Jesus said, "The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many." (Matthew 20:28) Paul exhorted the believers in Philippi, "Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others." (Philippians 2:4) Each of God's people should be seeking to minister to the needs of people who are around them on a daily basis. Because the Church is the visible manifestation of Jesus in our world, we believe that we are called to serve as the assembled body, so that Christ's grace and mercy might flow through His Visible Church and into the lives of those who have been made in His image.
At the portico we serve corporately in our community roughly once a quarter. In months that have 5 Sundays we consecrate one sabbath to worship God through our selfless service to others. Following our day of service we gather in a local home to devote our hearts to the study of God's word and to receive His grace as we observe the Lord's Supper. Following our time of devotion we share a common meal and watch a film together.
If you are looking for ways to serve in our area, we encourage you to join us as we go into the community together. Below are links of organizations that are always in need of servants.
